The Brooklyn Gypsies are a Global Fusion group of musicians/ producers based out of NYC & Europe whose creative influences draw from a constantly shifting socio-political urban landscape while retaining their unique cultural backgrounds. The use of the term "gypsies" acknowledges the diverse international origins among the members & an urban nomadic nature of survival and expression within a city such as New York.

Originating from Spain, Japan, Hungary, Italy & U.S.A. BK Gypsies truly represents Brooklyn’s diverse ethnic heritage and style. The gypsies came to be in 2012 within the Brooklyn Studio BPM music scene. Members include: Carmen Estevez Calero, Troy "Mobius" Simms, Takuya Nakamura, Brandon Lewis, Zeb "The Spy From Cairo" & Fatima Gozlan. After a number of collaborative projects between the artist were explored the opportunity to form a band that incorporated elements from each project arose.

A BK Gypsies live performance is a sonic/ visual journey through the deserts of the Middle east, Morocco and Andalucia Spain emerging into the dancehalls of Jamaica and Brooklyn NYC. Tracks off their debut album "Sin Fronteras" as well as new material off an upcoming EP are showcased featuring live vocals, tribal fusion bellydancers, bassy electronic synths, arabic percussion, Oud & brass horns. “Sin Fronteras means without borders in Spanish and is a message we strongly believe in especially considering the current times we are living.” The group has enjoyed being featured acts at such premier festivals as O.Z.O.R.A.’s Dragon Nest stage, Bali Spirit Fest in Indonesia and Symbiosis Oregon Eclipse Fest allowing the band to gain international notoriety within the global fusion genre in just over a few years. Brooklyn Gypsies is a tribute and celebration of the nomadic gypsy spirit worldwide.

CARMEN ESTEVEZ

Carmen Estevez Calero is a percussionist, vocalist and studio musician from Badajoz (Spain). Since she came to NYC she worked as a percussionist/vocalist at The Collective School of Music with Bob Quaranta and Kim Plainfield and she created her own flamenco/jazz trio Flamenkina which went on tour with the world known tap dancer Savion Glover. Currently she is playing and touring with Hernan Romero (Grammy winner), and with the best flamenco artists in NYC like Ismael Fernandez, Sonia Olla, Sean Kupisz and Auxi Fernandez. She performed and recorded with Sean Wayland, Matt Geraghty, DJ Joe Claussel, Marshall Davis, Andy McCloud, Arturo “Espiritu Gitano” Martinez, The New York Gypsy Festival... Technicolor Lenses, V Zone and Brooklyn Gypsies are today the new projects where percussion, vocals and electronic elements are all together.

TROY MOBIUS SIMMS

Saxophonist and Producer Troy "Mobius" Simms has been creating music & performing in NYC since 98’. After moving to Puerto Rico for six months in 2001 Troy started the Mobius Collective with a weekly residency in Viejo San Juan where he was able to explore the fusion of his own Jazz, Funk, Hip-Hop roots with the Afro- latin rhythms of the island. This platform allowed the young musician to create a network of artist as well as a blueprint to curating further such Events. In 2008 Mobius along with fellow Brooklyn musician Taylor McFerrin and others started Brooklyn Freestyle Sessions weekly residency at Rose Live Music in Williamsburg BK, which ran four years straight, becoming one of the premier live music sessions for upcoming artist to showcase their talent. Mobius has played with such noted musicians as: Junior Marvin, Lee Scratch Perry, The Roots, Redman, The Roots Radics, Ladybug Mecca, Roy Ayers, Osunlade, Meshell Ndegeocello to name a few. The artist played a part in the recent Academy Award Nominated movie “American Hustle” as the saxophonist in a 70’s soul band. Troy now produces Mobius Collective, Dub Select Horns_ Reggae Horn Section & Brooklyn Gypsies.

TAKUYA NAKAMURA

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Takuya Nakamura (Cocorosie, Nerve, George Russell, Arto Lindsay, Quincy Jones) blends a new brand of Dub and lo-fi analog and Hi-fi Digital space techno to his sound, his ethereal space trumpet playing establish a cinematic landscape of sound which evokes timeless zone.

BRANDON LEWIS

When a musician masters the ability to keep his own identity, thus at the same time honoring the vision of the other players around, we can say that he “has his own sound”. Brandon Lewis aka B-Riddimz is a musician that has found his “own sound”. As a younger musician who moved to NYC in 2009, Brandon's career as a professional drummer engaged since the start. He comes from an experience which lead him to “grow up” in the music scene at a very early age leading him to the peak of a new generation incorporating electronic synthesized beats on top of a “jazz” platform. Musicians like Brandon have started young at communicating through many disciplines - free playing, jazz, pop harmony, classically trained composition, funk, and reggae. He also preaches a very electronic “DJ culture” attitude towards his musical phrasing and beat producing. He has only just begun to share some of his own music to the scene however has played drums for many of the known bands today - Frederick's Brown (Deva Mahal), Ilhan Ersahin, Hernan Romero trio, Bob Quaranta, JoJo Mayer's NERVE and Art Decade. His current projects that he performs regularly are – Brooklyn Gypsies, Wax Poetic, Technicolor Lenses, and V Zone. All of them in which you will find him being the backbone of the band supplying the tasty delicious grooves.

ZEB SPY FROM CAIRO

The Spy From Cairo aka Moreno Visini, the artist formerly known as Zeb--has written hundreds of songs and produced more than ten albums in the last 14 years, including Organic Grooves albums, Zeb albums, and more recently, The Spy From Cairo albums. He has also contributed to countless collections, including Turntables on the Hudson and Buddha Bar Compilations. This talented musician and studio wizard has done around 100 remixes for artists as diverse as Natasha Atlas, Mr. Scruff, Quantic, Thunderball, Tosca, Billy Holiday, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Baba Maal, Astor Piazolla, Nickodemus, Novalima and many more. His live set on oud (featuring special guest performers) will highlight tunes from his brand new EP, Sparta, An exploration of classic Arabic, Turkish, and Persian melodies coupled with his signature dub and electronic sounds.

FATIMA GOZLAN

Fatou Gozlan is a globetrotter a free spirit and a multi-talented artist. She plays several kind of reed flutes, such as the Arabic and Turkish ney, African fula flute, Indian bansuri, Bulgarian kaval and Egyptian kawala. She gained her name by playing the popular arabic percussion; the derbuka, other ways known as tabla. Fatou also has experience organizing festivals and producing albums. The young artist started playing the flute at the age of 12, but later decided to pursue acting. She got a contract with a famous theatre in Budapest, but after some time, left in search of wisdom and traveling. She made her way to Egypt and discovered her passion for percussion music. Fatima became a student of Khamis Henkesh, the highly renowned and gifted Egyptian percussionist, and learned from his artistry and techniques. Fatou discovered her love of flutes and continued to pursue her studies in Turkey, India, Senegal and Gambia. All flutes are made from bamboo and very spiritual instruments. A few years ago She started to practice yoga, and now composes music for healing, yoga, meditation and trance dance, using her reed flutes and percussion instruments. Fatou loves to collaborate with musicians from all traditions, including Jazz and electronic music. She has collaborated with celebrated artists, such as: Okay Temiz, Giovanni Hidalgo, Ayman Mabrouk, Fathy Salama and many more musicians from all over the world. In 2011 Meszecsinka, the band Fatima She was a vocalist, percissionist and fluetest for, won 1st prize in Folkbeats talent contest held in Budapest. At the time she works in New York City. Her current set is nearly 45 minutes long a live performance recorded at the well-known, hungarian psychedelic trance festival, O.Z.O.R.A. The recording went trough a post-production process which was made at 1G Studios 2.0, Budapest. The set will be available soon on the known digital music platforms, and streaming services.
